FBI arrests AT&T employee for leaking information to Anonymous

The Tech Herald reported on information given to us by Ryan Cleary shortly before his arrest. AT&T insider who handed sensitive information and a bootable USB disk over to Anonymous. On Tuesday, the FBI arrested an AT&T employee connected to the leak, during a nationwide sweep targeting Anonymous. The public first learned of the AT&T files from a Torrent release by LulzSec. The documents were included in the group’s final release before they disappeared from the public eye. The release also marked the second major data leak under the AntiSec movement, which has targeted both government and private sector organizations since its founding. In addition to documents, the insider leak also included a bootable USB drive used by AT&T.

while interviewing Cleary for a separate story, he bragged about the AT&T leak, and the fact an insider delivered the information and software to Anonymous. “…an employee of AT&T gave us loads of shit…,” he said. Cleary’s comments were confirmed by two additional sources. One of them, a person linked to LulzSec itself, and the other an associate of Anonymous familiar with the data. On Tuesday, these two additional sources were raided and arrested, as law enforcement in the U.S., U.K., and the Netherlands, coordinated in sweeps against Anonymous.

If the charges prove correct, Moore faces 10 years in prison and a $250,000 USD fine for his actions.

South Korean social network hacked, 35 million users Data at risk

35 million users Personal information of a South Korean social network site may have been exposed. Local authorities were quick to blame hack attacks against the Cyworld social networking website and the Nate web portal – both of which are run by SK Telecom – on Chinese hackers.

Names, phone numbers, email addresses, and other details may have been exposed through the Cyworld hack, which follows previous attacks against South Korean government sites and financial service firms. North Korea has been implicated in some of these hacks.

South Korean police are reportedly investigating the cyberattack against Cyworld – a social network with a SIMS-like environment featuring avatars and virtual apartments – and Nate, which offers webmail.

Mark Darvill, director at security appliance firm AEP Networks, commented: " By any standard this is a massive attack and one of many in recent months where the finger has been pointed at hackers based in China. It's too early to say whether this attack is politically motivated or merely an attempt to steal personal information for financial gain."

" It's now becoming increasingly difficult to differentiate between attacks on military, communications, financial, civilian or critical infrastructure targets," he added.

There are approximately 49 million people in South Korea in total, so it would appear that the great majority of them who are online at all may have been hacked.

Pentagon Admits to biggest ever data breach

According to Report, Department of Defense and Pentagon is disclosing news of the one of the largest data loss events to date . From investigation, officials to believe the intrusion was orchestrated by a foreign government. The theft of around 24,000 sensitive Pentagon documents occurred in March 2011.

The Pentagon is revealing that it suffered one of its largest-ever losses of sensitive defense data this spring to a cyber attack that it blames on an unspecified foreign government.

The loss is an example of why the Pentagon has developed new cyber security rules that emphasize deeper defenses, more collaboration with private industry and new steps to stop thefts by malicious insiders. 

William Lynn, the deputy secretary of defense, said in a speech outlining the new strategy that 24,000 files were stolen from a defense industry computer network in a single intrusion in March. He offered no details. 

In an interview, Lynn said the Pentagon has a good idea who made the attack but he would not offer details. He said it was by a nation rather an individual.

The attack was part of a larger campaign by hackers against the DOD systems, and hackers are also trying to exploit its communications and satellite systems, according to William Lynn, the deputy secretary of defense. The most skilled hacking attempts are coming from nation states, rather than hacking groups, he warned.
